Hello friends! It’s time for the newest Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things! Come play along with us for a chance to win a $50 MFT Gift Voucher!

I absolutely love the Party Like a Pirate Stamp Set illustrated by the amazing Birdie Brown. I used this set to create my take on this week’s sketch. I stamped my little pirate with Copic friendly Black Ink onto a sheet of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock.

I then used Copic Sketch Markers to color him.
- Skin: E0000, E000, E21, E11, E04
- Blue: B21, B23, B28, B39
- Whites: 0, C00, C1, C2, C4
- Blacks: W2, W4, W5, W7, W8
- Sword: C0, C2, C4, C5
- Shoes & Vest: E81, E84, E87, E89

For the star background, I used the Star Shaker Window & Frame Die-namics and diecut the shapes from a piece of Gold Sparkle Card Stock. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but this Gold Sparkle Card Stock is just gorgeous! I used both the star frame and the inlay and just glued them to the base of my card.

To create the tattered map background, I took a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of Kraft Card Stock and quickly drew my map onto one side. It doesn’t have to be perfect! In fact, the more messy you make it, the more tattered it looks!

I then used a sharp pair of scissors to fussy cut my shape and then flipped it over so that any pencil marks would not show on the front of my card.

To really add some depth to my map, I then blended it with some Frayed Burlap, Vintage Photo, and Walnut Stain Distress Inks. I made sure to only apply the Walnut Stain Distress Ink to just the outer edges because it is such a dark pigment.

I adhered my map to the front of an A2 sized, top folding card base. I then heat embossed my sentiment to the front with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder. Lastly, I added my pirate on top of the star shapes with some 3D Foam Adhesive Squares.
