Hello, crafty friends! I have a fun shaker card to share with you today featuring the cute little turtle from the newly released Baby Sea Creatures Clear Stamp Set from Whimsy Stamps. (Affiliated links used where applicable.) I actually have TWO cards to share with you today but the second one was created by my 6-year old daughter, Mila!

I shared another card earlier this month that featured some of the other stamps from this set. I wanted to keep the turtle alone because I thought that this sentiment went perfectly with him. To start, I first heat embossed the Mini Bubbles Background Rubber Cling Stamp with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder onto a scrap piece of smooth white card stock. I then did some emboss resist ink blending on top with some Distress Oxide Inks (Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire) to allow the bubbles to show in white through the ink.

To create the shaker portion, I diecut a stitched circle frame from some white heavyweight card stock using the gorgeous Shaker Maker Combo Die Set. I then stamped this piece generously with some clear VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed it with some Silver Embossing Powder to give it a metallic look. My goal was to make it resemble a porthole.

I then added a piece of clear acetate behind my porthole frame and adhered my turtle to the back of the acetate so that he would have a little more dimension than if I had glued him to the base of my card. I diecut a circle window into a piece of 5″ x 3.75″ white card stock. I added some 3mm Majestic Mini Sequins from Studio Katia for my shaker embellishments. All of this was then adhered onto a blue, A2 sized, top folding card base.

Lastly, I wanted to share this card that my 6-year old daughter, Mila, made. Last month, Jennifer McGuire posted THIS video that was filled with tips for kid’s card making. One of the tips that she shared was how to let your kids (if you think that they’re ready) use your Copic Markers! Honestly, I never thought that I would let any of my kids use my markers until they were much older but Mila has been watching me color for years now and has been itching to try them.

Thanks to this great video, I decided to let her try! This was her first card ever using Copic Markers and some Distress Ink Blending! I was pleasantly surprised at how well she handled them! She’s a quick learner and actually did this card all by herself! She chose to to use the turtle because she loved it so much! She also helped me stage her photos (although, I did take the pictures for her).
