MFT Stamps | Message in a Bottle Card Kit – Release Day!

January 14, 2020

Hello crafty friends! The new Message in a Bottle Card Kit from My Favorite Things is now available! I have had so much fun using this kit and have one more project to share with you.

I created an underwater scene today where I wanted it to look like the bottle had just been dropped into the ocean for its journey. I first created my card background by using the Sunrise Radiating Rays Stencil and blending a few Distress Inks onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ sheet of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock.

I kept my lighter colors toward the top of the water to reflect the incoming sunlight and blended with my darker colors toward the bottom of this panel. Once I had finished blending, I generously splattered this piece with water using a #4 paint brush. I let the water sit for about a minute before blotting it dry with a paper towel.

Once it was dry, I then used my Message in a Bottle Die-namics to cut out an area for my bottle. I trimmed another piece of white card stock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and lined it up under my top piece and then glued the negative piece from my bottle onto this sheet. I then adhered my shaker pouch to the top panel (the ink blended one) and then added some embellishments and my sentiment to the bottom panel as shown above. I then carefully adhered my ink blended panel to the bottom panel, lining up the bottle of the shaker pouch on top of the diecut bottle below.

I then added a little ocean scene using the Under the Sea Die-namics. For the bottom of the ocean floor, I had first diecut this piece from Smooth White Card Stock and then blended it with both Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Inks.

Lastly, I added some curious little fish from the Birdie Brown Gill Friends Stamp Set. I adhered them with some 3D Foam Adhesive Squares for some added dimension.

This fun kit is available at a bundle deal in limited quantities. For more kit inspiration, head on over to the MFT Blog.

In case you missed it, here’s a look at some other projects that I made using this kit. Click on either photo above for more details.

Great card Rachel! I love that you can feel the movement of the bottle sinking. Did you use cork paper for your ‘cork’?

    • rachelalvaradodesigns January 19, 2020 at 9:12 AM

Hi Robin! Yes, I did use cork paper! I’m sure there are other options out there but I used the cork paper from the Textured Surfaces Pack by Tim Holtz.

The drops around the bottle; is it clear Nuvo drops?
    Laura

    • rachelalvaradodesigns January 19, 2020 at 9:10 AM

Hi Laura! Thank you for your sweet comments! I used Glossy Accents for the drops around the bottle but I believe that clear Nuvo drops would work as well!
