MFT Stamps | Wednesday Sketch Challenge #485

April 15, 2020

Hello friends! It’s time for a brand new sketch challenge from My Favorite Things! For this week’s sketch, I was inspired to create an underwater scene.

I started by trimming a piece of smooth white card stock to 3.75″ x 4.75″. I then used the Drifts & Hills Stencil to create a wavy pattern similar to that on the sketch layout. I blended some Distress Inks onto this panel, starting with the darkest color at the bottom and working my way up to the lightest. I used Tumbled Glass, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot for my color blend.

Once I finished with blending my colors, I then generously splattered my piece with some water using a small paint brush. I dabbed any excess water dry with a clean paper towel and then repeated the process one more time to get a lot of texture. I set this piece aside to dry completely and went to work on my images.

I stamped all of my images from the Birdie Brown Friends with Fins Stamp Set onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I then colored them with Copic Markers (Whale: BG10, BG11, BG15, BG57, BG18; Orca: W5, W7, W9; Dolphin: W00, W1, W2, W4, W5, Blush: R30). Next, I grabbed my ink blended panel again and measured a center point toward the bottom of my piece but an inch or two from the bottom.

I used a ruler to draw a line from each bottom corner to this point and then used a sharp pair of scissors to cut my fishtail. I then adhered this piece to my 4.25″ x 5.5″ white card base with some double sided adhesive. To finish, I then heat embossed both my sentiment and some fish with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder and then added my images with some 3D Foam Adhesive Squares for some extra dimension.

Come play along for a chance to win a $50 MFT Gift Voucher! The winner is chosen at random. For more sketch inspiration, make sure to head on over to the MFT Blog!
