Hello friends! It’s time for a brand new Wednesday Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things! Come play along with us for a chance to win a $50 MFT Gift Voucher! (Winner is chosen at random.) You don’t have to follow the sketch exactly, but rather come up with a design that the sketch inspires to you create!
Here is a look at this week’s sketch layout. Feel free to flip, rotate, and/or substitute the shapes for images! The goal is to unleash your creativity and just have fun!
For my take on the sketch, I created a beach scene using the newly re-released Seaside Seagulls (one of my favorites!). I stamped all of my images with Copic friendly Black Ink onto a sheet of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock, colored them with Copics, and used the coordinating dies to cut them out.
Copic Color Combos Used:
- Seagull’s Body: 0, C00, C0, C2, C4
- Seagull’s Wings: C2, C4, C6
- Beaks: Y11, Y15, V12
- Wooden Buoy: E30, E23, E25
I set aside my seagulls to next create my background scenery. I trimmed a piece of smooth white card stock to 4″ x 4″ and blended the top portion lightly with some beautiful Sno Cone Premium Dye Ink. I then splattered this area with water, blotted it dry with a paper towel, and then splattered it again but this time with diluted Opaque White Paint. I then used the Beach Scene Builder Die-namics to cut some smooth white card stock. I blended the ocean area with some Summer Splash Premium Dye Ink and the beach area with both Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Inks.
Next, I stamped some birds onto my sky in black ink from the Party Like a Pirate Stamp Set. I assembled my card and added my seagulls with some 3D Foam Adhesive Tape. Lastly, I heat embossed my sentiment with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder onto a piece of Black Licorice Card Stock and then cut it out with one of the Skinny Strips Die-namics.
