Hello friends! I am thrilled to be guest designing again for Purple Onion Designs to showcase some products from the newest collection by Stacey Yacula called “The Sweetest Little Town.”
I made a single-layer card today that features the adorable Sweet Snow Friends Stamp Set. I first stamped my image onto a 4.5″ x 5.75″ piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I then stamped it again onto a sheet of Gina K. Designs Masking Magic Sheets and fussy cut it out. I used this piece as a mask to cover my image so that I could then blend some ink onto my background. Fussy cutting does take time, but I find it therapeutic and enjoy the extra step.
I also masked off the bottom portion (snowy area) of my card and then blended the rest with Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio, and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Inks. Once blended, I used a #4 round paint brush (nothing fancy!) and splattered my background lightly with water. I usually let it sit for a few seconds but because of the risk of water getting under the masking piece, I quickly blotted it dry with a paper towel. Next, I splattered it again with diluted opaque white and blue paints for a snowy look.
I then removed my masking piece and set the entire panel aside to dry. Once it was completely dry, I then trimmed it down to 4.25″ x 5.5″. I like starting with a larger piece than necessary because when ink blending, the edges of the card sometimes get concentrated with ink. This way, I can easily trim off those edges and then have a standard A2 sized card remaining. Lastly, I used my MISTI to stamp my sentiment and then I colored my images with Copic Markers.

- Teals: G000, BG11, BG13, BG49
- Dark Blue Scarf: B72, B75, B78
- Bright Blue: B000, B01, B04, B06
- Penguin: W5, W7, W10
- Bunny: E40, E41, E42, E43, E44

Oh Rachel, I saw this on IG and loved it, but I think I love it even more getting to see it up close like this. So neat that it is a one layer card. It seems to have a lot of depth and doesn’t really look like it is one layer. Those images are so sweet and charming and your magic touch just brings them to life in such a sweet way. Thanks for sharing how you splatter the background. I’m pretty sure I have that size brush in my stash. Maybe I can get a similar look. Thanks so much for sharing your talent.
