Hello friends! It’s time for a brand new Slimline Challenge from My Favorite Things! This month’s theme is all about creating slimline cards with birthday themes. Come play along for a chance to win a $50 MFT Gift Voucher! (One winner will be chosen at random.)
I created a one-layered birthday scene today using the adorable BB Space Explorer Stamp Set. This set is one of my absolute favorites because my husband is an aerospace engineer and my family loves anything to do with outer space exploration and research. If you’ve been following along on the news, NASA’s Perseverance rover (which launched almost 7 months ago) is only hours away from its exciting attempt to land on Mars!
To start my card, I first trimmed a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock to 3.5″ x 5.5″ and stamped my images onto it with black ink. I then stamped my images again onto a sheet of Gina K Designs Masking Magic Sheets and fussy cut them so that I could then temporarily place them over top of their exact images onto my card base. Once all of my masks were in place, I then blended my background with some Distress Inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot for the edges.)
With my masks still in place, I then splattered the background with some water with a size 4 round paint brush and quickly blotted it dry with a clean paper towel. Next, I splattered the background with diluted opaque white paint to resemble stars. I then removed my masking pieces, allowed my background to dry, and then colored my images with Copic Markers. Lastly, I heat embossed my sentiment with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder and added some details onto my background with a white gel pen.
