Hello friends! Welcome to MFT Sketch Challenge 550! I encourage you all to stretch your creativity and come play along for a chance to win a $50 MFT Gift Voucher! One lucky winner will be chosen at random.

Here is a look at this week’s sketch. You don’t have to follow the sketch exactly but can replace the shapes with images, or rotate/flip the sketch. The main idea is to have fun! I followed the sketch layout pretty closely this week and created a mini slimline card featuring one of my most favorite stamp sets.

I stamped images from the BB Mermazing Stamp Set onto a 3.5″ x 6.5″ piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock. I stamped them again on a sheet of Gina K Designs Masking Magic Sheets and fussy cut them out so that I could place them on top of my stamped images. I also cut some slopes by hand from the masking paper and placed them at the bottom of my card. Next, I blended some sun rays using the Ray of Light Stencil along with some Tumbled Glass, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Dusty Concord, and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks. Once I blended my rays, I then removed my stencil and blended the area around the rays with the same Distress Ink Colors. Once I was finished blending, I then splattered the ink blended section with water to give my background some added texture.

I then removed my masking pieces and placed new ones over my ink blended section so that I could ink blend the sand slopes at the bottom. For the first slope, I used Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink and for the bottom slope I used some Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Ink. I added a few splatters of diluted opaque white acrylic paint and added some dark dots using my Copic Markers.

Once my background was complete, I removed all masking pieces and then heat embossed both my sentiment as well as some sea foliage with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder. Lastly, I stamped some fish with black ink and then colored my images with Copic Markers.
