Hello friends! Purple Onion Designs is having a mega sale right now and offering 25% OFF almost all of their rubber stamps! I created a fun, single layer card today featuring the SS Minow Rubber Stamp illustrated by Stacey Yacula.

Even though they may look like a lot of work, I find one layer cards very relaxing. I find that it’s pretty easy to fussy cut the masking pieces for my images in the evening after the kids go to bed. My husband and I will watch a tv show and I’ll just fussy cut away.

For this card, I started with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock. I stamped my SS Minow image into the center portion of my card with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Prior to stamping, I cut a wavy line (resembling an ocean wave) from a piece of Gina K Masking Magic Sheets. I placed this onto my card base first so that the bottom of the boat would not be stamped onto my actual card stock. I then stamped my image again onto a piece of masking paper and fussy cut it. I also cut off the bottom portion of the boat using my initial wavy masking piece as a guide. I then covered my image with the masking paper and used Distress Inks to blend some ocean waves (Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, and a touch of Chipped Sapphire). Next, I covered the top portion of my card with a piece of paper and splattered the ocean waves with both water and diluted Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

Before removing my masking piece on the boat, I also blended my sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink and splattered it with some diluted white and blue paints for added interest. I then removed my masking piece and allowed the background to dry before heat embossing my sentiment from the Essential Thoughts Sentiment Set with fine detail white embossing powder. Lastly, I trimmed my card down to 4″ x 5.25″ and layered it with both white and light gray card stock pieces. I then finished it by coloring my images with Copic Alcohol Markers.

Thank you so very much for your sweet comments, my friend!
I love using masks… as a child I loved cutting out paper dolls. I wish you could still buy them. Everything is punch out now…. Love the color and your waves are perfect. Hope they catch their limit! TFS
I used to cut out paper dolls too! It was always so much fun.
