Purple Onion Designs | 18th Anniversary Sale – Farm Friends Slimline Card

July 30, 2021

Hello crafty friends! I’m back with another card that features some beautiful stamps from Purple Onion Designs. They are currently celebrating their 18th Anniversary with a 25% OFF sale on rubber stamps (some exclusions apply.). You can check this sale out HERE.

My card today features some adorable farm animals illustrated by Stacey Yacula. As with my previous card, I was on a ‘one-layer card kick’ one night and spent the evening fussy cutting masking pieces for my images while watching tv. The fun thing abut one-layer cards is that they’re just like coloring a coloring page once your card is stamped and ready to go.

As with all of my one layer cards, I first stamp a rough draft onto a piece of scrap white paper. (I used a 3.5″ x 8.5″ piece for this card.) I do this to get an idea of where I want my images on my final draft. It’s a little more challenging to line up rubber stamps onto a rough draft but the MISTI makes it pretty easy to get it close. This process usually only takes about 5 minutes because it doesn’t matter if images overlap and look a mess. When I go to make my final copy, I then stamp my most foreground images first, mask them, and then stamp the images that will appear behind them. I repeat the process until I’m finished. In this card, I stamped my goat first, followed by the other animals, and then the farm horizon in the background last.

Stamps Used:

For my background sky, I blended a mix of Distress Oxide Inks (Tattered Rose, Kitsch Flamingo, Tumbled Glass, and Stormy Sky). With all of my masking pieces still adhered, I splattered this background blending with some diluted opaque white acrylic paint as well as some diluted Stormy Sky Distress Ink for added interest. Next, I removed my masking pieces, trimmed my main card piece down to 3.25″ x 8.25″, stamped my sentiment, and then layered my main card piece with a 3.5″ x8.5″ piece of white card stock and a 3.75″ x 8.75″ piece of blue card stock. Lastly, colored my images with Copic Alcohol Markers.

Copic Colors Used:

  • Horse & Barn: E40, E42, E43, E44, E47
  • Cow: 0, C00, C1, C3, C5, C7, C9
  • Sheep: 0, C00, C1, C3
  • Goat: W00, W1, W3, W5
  • Grass: G40, G43, G46
  • Trees: YG07, YG17, YG67

Once again, you can check out all the stamps that Purple Onion Designs has to offer HERE.

Thanks for sharing this fabulous one layer card, Rachel. And for describing your process. Making a draft copy is very smart. I tend to plunge in with both feet and not really prep for some types of cards. I’d be smart to remember this and save some paper. haha. The coloring is fantastic and I just love the dusky looking sky in the background. Appreciate all your hard work. 🙂 Happy weekend!
