Welcome to the MFT September Slimline Challenge! Come play along for a chance to win a $50 MFT Gift Voucher! The theme for this month’s challenge is Christmas. The goal is to create a slimline Christmas-themed card.

For my take on the challenge, I created a one-layer Christmas card featuring a bunch of cute Birdie Brown illustrations. I stamped and masked my images to give them some dimension while still being one layer. To do this, I first created a rough draft of my card on a 3.5″ x 8.5″ piece of white card stock. I then stamped all of my images onto pieces of Gina K Designs Masking Magic Sheets and fussy cut them out to lay them over my images as I went. (See photo above).

I stamped my hats and images that were to appear in front of other images first. I then masked them and stamped the rear images last. Once all of my masks were in place, I then masked off the bottom portion of my card with some masking tape to provide a break between the snowy sky and the ground area. Next, I blended my background with MFT Tropical Teal, Summer Splash, and Sno Cone Premium Dye Inks. With my masks still in place, I then splattered this area with diluted opaque white paint to resemble snow. Next, I removed my masking pieces and allowed my card to dry before coloring my images with Copic alcohol markers.

Once I was done coloring, I then used a white gel pen to add some “snow” on top of my images. I trimmed my card down to 3.25″ x 8.25″ to get rid of any dark ink splotches on the sides of my card, stamped my sentiment, and layered my card with a piece of 3.5″ x 8.5″ Smooth White Card Stock and 3.75″ x 8.75″ Tropical Teal Prestige Card Stock.
